About the Project

‘The feeling of the foam
The Liffey on the nose
Bent down on one leg
Entering the flow’

from Swell

Delivered as part of Dublin Culture Connections National Neighbourhood programme, Colm worked with groups from Marino College of Further Education, SAOL Project, and High Hopes Choir. Bringing young people from across inner city Dublin together, Colm’s facilitation helped participants to identify stories relevant to their experience and localities, helping those involved to build creativity into their everyday lives. Delivered alongside artist Nick Roache, the eight-week programme delivered three strands, utilising psychogeography, city tours, and kayaking expeditions. The programme culminated in a showcase event which took place in the National Concert Hall, platforming stories of local importance, from across Dublin city, on a national stage. The resultant collaborative poem Swell, drawing on the experiences of participants and written by Colm, was subsequently published in The Irish Times.
